First washout of the tournament

The bad weather did not relent and finally the match between Australia and Bangladesh has been washed out. This makes it the first game in this tournament to be washed out and also the game abandoned without a ball being bowled. Australia and Bangladesh were supposed to play against each other for the first time since April 2011, but that did not happen, courtesy weather God. So the wait continues. There is still a theoretical possibility of these two team s meeting in the knockouts this world cup itself, of course theoretical. 

Because of this result, Australia and Bangladesh will share one point each. This point will definitely come handy to Bangladesh with England reeling under two losses. This also means that England will be under more pressure now. Their humiliating defeat at the hands of Kiwis has already dented their NRR. So, they are left with no choice but to win all the remaining matches, if they want to secure a quarterfinal berth. 

The fans will also have to wait to see Michael Clarke take the field. The next match for Australia is only on February 28 against New Zealand in Auckland. If there had been a match today, Michael Clarke would have got some match practice before that important game against the Kiwis. With just one point from this match, Australia would like to win against the Kiwis and settle the top position in the pool then and there itself.

Bangladesh would be facing their Asian counterpart Sri Lanka in their next match on February 26 at MCG. Irrespective of the result here, a full match would have given them the much needed practice in Australian conditions to face Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka after the drubbing against New Zealand would not be high on spirits. But they meet Afghanistan tomorrow and would hope to have win under the belt before they face Bangladesh. Irrespective of the win against Afghanistan, they will still be below Bangladesh in the pool because of the point that Bangladesh gained today.

The washout today had made the pool a little more interesting. England after two crushing losses, languishing at the bottom of the table are the worst affected by today's result.
